Khloe Kardashian has filed for divorce from her estranged husband Lamar Odom for the second time, having called a halt to proceedings last year after his near-fatal overdose.

According to court documents obtained by People, the reality TV star cited irreconcilable differences in their relationship when she filed on Thursday (May 26th).

31 year old Khloe married Odom, an NBA star, in 2009 and were together for four years until she filed for divorce the first time in December 2013, after he relapsed with substance abuse problems he had been struggling with previously and then cheated on her.

Proceedings were protracted and then eventually called off nearly two years later, when 36 year old Odom nearly died after collapsing from an overdose in a legal brothel in Nevada in October 2015.

“This was always the plan. The divorce has never been officially off. Khloé was waiting for the timing to be right,” a source told People yesterday.

At the time of his hospitalisation, Khloe tended to him at his bedside as he remained in a coma for several days afterwards. She also provided financial support for him as he recovered over a period of months, much faster than medical experts had predicted.

“She was loyal for a long time and taking care of him, but she's not a babysitter and needs to move on with her life,” a second source said, with yet another insider close to the Kardashian family saying that the decision had been made a while ago, but that she’d continue to provide emotional support for him.

“She's honestly fine and it's more of a formality at this point… she's there for him and they're in regular contact and she wishes him well. She'll always be there for him. But as far as their marriage is concerned, that's over and has been for quite some time. It was time to make it official.”

Finally, the inside source says that Odom has taken the development well. “He wasn’t blindsided. He knew it was coming. It was amicable.”
