At least something good is coming out of the situation: Kris will donate the money to charity.
The ex-husband of Kim Kardashian, Kris Humphries, has finalised his split from the reality television star by auctioning off her engagement ring. Now, this wasn't just any piece of sparkly finger jewellery: the ring in question was created by Lorraine Schwartz and features a 16.21-carat centre diamond and two 1.8-carat side diamonds.

Although the ring was expected to sell for $2 million, it fetched the much less but still sizeable sum of $749,000. However, "Kris is not losing money on the ring," lawyer Lee Hutton said, via the NY Daily News. It was confirmed last month that the ring would be sold at Christie's auction house in New York and the auction catalogue noted that that a portion of the proceeds from the item's sale would benefit an as-yet-undetermined charity, reports US Weekly.

Baseball star Kris and Kim were engaged back in May 2011 and the pair were married for just 72 days before Kim filed for divorce in October of the same year which led to claims that their marriage was a publicity stunt. Kim has since begun a relationship with rapper Kanye West with whom she has a four month-old daughter, North.
The Keeping Up With The Kardashians star is said to have quietly given the ring back to Kris last year as part of their divorce agreement. "Kim has been waiting for the day he would auction it," a source told Us Weekly. "Everyone always asked what Kim did with the ring -- she silently gave it back over a year ago! And Kris waited until the divorce was final to sell it."
Their Marriage Lasted A Magnificent 72 Days.
"Kris is pleased with the outcome of the sale and the fact he can give a portion of the proceeds to a deserving charity. He's in the process of selecting the charity now," said Humphries' lawyer. The sports star's career is on the up: he's in the process of signing with the Boston Celtics.
Hutton spoke of Humphries' current mindset upon the sale of the ring: "I'm not sure if the ring or its sale helps with the process of moving on. I think he moved on long before the ring was even put into the auction, Hutton said. "Kris, being an athlete, is getting ready for an upcoming season and ready for life's lessons as they come along. This whole process was humbling but maturing."
