The Enter Sandman hitmakers revealed in February (15) that they had teamed up with designers at Armada Skis to create their own line of equipment and cold-weather clothing, including windbreaker jackets and gloves.
Now drummer Ulrich has opened up about the merchandising deal, revealing the main attraction was impressing his children and getting his hands on some free skis.
He tells Q magazine, "I could show you hundreds of emails from people where they're saying, 'We can't live without signature Metallica skis.' No, to be honest with you, it's kind of cool to show your kids that you have your own skis. If that's not enough reason, you get a couple of freebies and the 12 people on the planet that are interested in Metallica skis can have that particular thirst quenched. It works out OK."
