The actress' next project for DC will be directed by David Ayer.
Margot Robbie is set to return to the big screen as Harley Quinn sooner than you thought with an upcoming all-female villainess movie entitled 'Gotham City Sirens'. It's based on the fairly recent DC Comic book series of the same name which bands together all your favourite lady supervillains.
Margot Robbie played Harley Quinn in 'Suicide Squad'
The film will be directed by 'Suicide Squad''s David Ayer with a screenplay by up-and-coming movie writer Geneva Robertson-Dworet, who is also penning scripts for the 'Tomb Raider' re-boot, 'Sherlock Holmes 3', the 'Dungeons & Dragons' film, 'M.A.S.K.: Mobile Armored Strike Kommand', 'ROM' and 'Visionaries: Knights of the Magical Light'.
Written and designed by Paul Dini and Guillem March respectively, the comics follow three main female Batman villains; Harley Quinn, Catwoman and Poison Ivy. The first issue was launched in 2009 and it was completed in 2011 after 26 issues. Two of the characters have been portrayed in live action in previous years; Poison Ivy was played by Uma Thurman in 'Batman & Robin', while Catwoman has been portrayed by the likes of Halle Berry, Anne Hathaway and Michelle Pfeiffer.

It is not known who will take on the roles of Catwoman and Poison Ivy, though Margot Robbie will of course return as the Joker's on-off girlfriend Harley Quinn and will also act as an executive producer. According to The Hollywood Reporter who announced the news, also in development is a 'Suicide Squad' sequel and a spin-off focusing on the life of one of the team Deadshot, played by Will Smith.
Meanwhile, the DC Universe franchise is focusing on the development of its heroes; Patrick Wilson is the latest addition to the cast of 2018's 'Aquaman', and next year sees the release of both 'Wonder Woman' starring Gal Gadot and the first 'Justice League' film. Ben Affleck's 'The Batman' is also imminent, though it is not known when this is expected to be released.
