She took a tremendous gamble with her career when she left her long-term role on ‘Coronation Street’ two years ago, but it all seems to have worked out for Michelle Keegan, who is now apparently earning 16 times more than she did on the ITV soap.

The 29 year old actress quit her role as barmaid Tina McIntyre in May 2014, having held down the part since late 2007. Such a move is often a risk, but a new report in The Sun has apparently disclosed what Keegan has earned since then, and it’s made her one of the most successful former soap stars in Britain, with an income just shy of £1 million over the last 12 months.

As the face of fashion range Lipsy, Manchester-born Keegan earned £250,000, but with other sponsorship, promotional deals and acting roles, she made nearly four times as much as that in total, according to figures from her firm Rosia Productions.

The number absolutely dwarfs what she used to make on ‘Coronation Street’, where she earned a salary of £60,000. However, because of stipulations in her contract, she was unable to endorse products or feature in advertising campaigns, which are now her primary source of income.

A source close to Keegan told The Sun: “Corrie was a dream come true but she had to leave for the sake of her bank balance. It looks like a shrewd move.” However, Keegan herself has not commented on her earnings at the time of writing.

She and her husband Mark Wright, a TV presenter and former cast member of ‘The Only Way Is Essex’, celebrated their first wedding anniversary back in May this year, but the pair are reportedly finding things difficult as Keegan’s busy schedule means they don’t spend much time together.

She’s recently finished filming for the second series of BBC war drama ‘Our Girl’, in which she co-stars along Lacey Turner having joined this year.
