Is Morrissey done with live shows now?
Poor health has forced Morrissey to disappoint his American contingent by cancelling the remaining 22 shows of his U.S tour. This is just the latest health-related performance-stopper for the aging rocker, and it begs the question: has he had enough?
These aren’t minor ailments. Morrissey has been suffering, in recent months, from a bleeding ulcer, a condition of the oesophagus and double pneumonia. All of these are capable of killing a man, so we wouldn’t be surprised if The Smiths star hung up his microphone, and, probably most importantly for his health, eased it up on the controversial comments; bleeding ulcers are often related to stress. And he gets a lot of that every time he makes an allegedly racist comment. "Despite his best efforts to try to continue touring, Morrissey has to take a hiatus and will not be able to continue on the rest of the tour,” explained his publicist in a statement. "Morrissey thanks all of his fans for their well wishes and thoughts."
Have we seen the last of this?
On January 31 a posting from Morrissey appeared on the fan website True To You saying: "The reports of my death have been greatly understated. Once admitted to the William Beaumont Hospital at Royal Oak in Michigan, I received treatment for concussion, a bleeding ulcer, and Barrett's oesophagus. The positive from all of this is that there are now no known ailments left for me to try."
