The Primetime Emmy Awards usually honor the stars of television on a Sunday night but this year NBC has switched the live broadcast to a Monday.

The prestigious ceremony, which is three-hours long, presents the US's top prizes for television achievements and will now air on Monday August 25th 2014.

The network and the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences made the announcement on Tuesday (Jan 28th).

This airdate is much earlier than previous years as it is usually broadcasted in late September, last year (2013) the Emmys took place on September 22nd.

The big move is due to NBC not wanting to conflict with the network's 'Sunday Night Football' show, which is a weekly sports program that airs during the NFL season.

NBC has not yet announced the host or the producer of this year's show, last year Neil Patrick Harris, co-star of the CBS hit comedy 'How I Met Your Mother,' took the helm for the second time, with the first being in 2009.

Will he be making 2014 a hat-trick?

The 2014 Emmy-Awards will take place from the Nokia Theatre at L.A. Live in Los Angeles and will air live coast-to-coast from 5 p.m. PT and 8 p.m. ET.

The Creative Arts Emmy Awards, which honors technical and other similar achievements, are required to take place a week before the coveted TV award ceremony. NBC and the Television Academy also announced that these will take place on August 6th.
