In more bad news this week, Biggest Loser alum David Gurganious has died this week at the age of 38. His sudden passing has been attributed to the onset of a rare autoimmune disorder, which caused bleeding in Gurganious’ brain, according to Us Weekly.

According to the website, Gurganious died on Monday, November 24th, just a week after he celebrated his birthday. His family released the following statement almost two weeks later for Us.

"He was a pillar of his family, an amazing son, brother, cousin and uncle,” the statement read. “He was an incredible husband and father to his two-year old daughter, Giselle. He was an inspiration and a mentor to so many. His love for his family and friends was immense."

Gurganious made his reality TV name when he competed on TBL in 2009 alongside his wife (then fiancée)  Nicole Brewer Gurganious. The couple only made it to week three of the controversial show, but they found happiness anyway and tied the knot later that year in August.  Brewer added the following personal statement.

"As most of you know, I never post on social media. So, it is highly ironic and deeply sad that my first true post is to inform you of the tragic loss of my beloved husband, Damien Gurganious," she wrote. "Damien suffered from the sudden onset of a rare autoimmune disorder, Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP), which caused inoperable bleeding in his brain. Damien passed away on Monday, November 24, 2014."
