The BBC’s decision to axe Danny Baker’s radio show has been met with an angry response from the broadcaster’s fans, but it was Baker himself who left things with an unceremonious evaluation of the decision.

“We dwell amid pinheaded weasels who know only timid, the generic and the abacus,” declared Baker on his last show, The Metro reports. “That's your lot. We don't want to leave but we're being told to by people we've never met who don't listen to [us].” It’s hard to believe that Baker will be able to carry on at the BBC until the end of the year, when, as confirmed by a BBC spokesperson, he will be leaving. Baker also said the BBC had told his agent of their decision, rather than telephoning him and called the decision patronising. It wasn’t just those with their radio switched on that were privy to his rant; anyone following @prodnose would have seen further insight into his feelings surrounding the episode. “So. Just been told the BBC London Show - the Treehouse - is to be shut down after all. Saves BBC money apparently,” he tweeted, followed by “Also. I am being "inducted" into The Radio Hall Of Fame next week. Big honour. BBC salutes by cutting five sixths of my shows. #IronyNotLost”.

Rob Brydon tweeted in his support, posting: “Glad that BBC are axing @prodnose Danny Baker's daily radio show. I've had it up to here with his wit, warmth and originality.” And Ross Noble showed solidarity, saying, “How can the BBC axe our greatest radio talent @prodnose show.after recent events they should be celebrating what they do well.”
