Even more shocking news is coming out of Brazil as funk artist, rapper and singer MC Dalaste is fatally shot while performing in city of Campinas in the southwest region of the troubled country. Recent riots and a horrific incident at a football match have seen Brazilian news awash with violent stories.

The 20-year old was mid-song when he was struck by the fatal bullet – an event that was filmed and uploaded and viewed over 4 million times on YouTube. You can watch for yourself below, but be warned that some might find the scenes distressing.

Dalaste’s facebook page – thought to be a fan page made by his faithful supporters – has been flooded with posts since his shooting. Someone thought to be a friend of his posted: "I hope God gives strength to the family, friends, and fans of my good friend MC Daleste, a guy who only wanted to convey joy to everyone through his music. It is a pity that the peace which we dream of, we often only get when we close our eyes."

This is just the latest horrifically violent act to take place in Brazil over the last two weeks – apart from the riots that have been taking place in opposition to the country’s poor services (transport and healthcare etc), a referee was decapitated after stabbing a player on the pitch. The referee was met by a hoard of angry fans, who severed his head and put it on a stake in the middle of the pitch - this doesn’t bode well for Brazil, who are set to host the 2014 Football World Cup.
