NBC announced plans on Tuesday to jumpstart next year's Winter Olympics from Sochi, Russia in primetime on Thursday, Feb. 6, one day before the opening ceremony, with coverage of two new events, team figure skating and slopestyle snowboarding, as well as women's freestyle moguls. Mark Lazarus, chairman of the NBC Sports Group, told a news conference that the decision by the IOC to add 12 events to the Winter Games program resulted in the additional night. He indicated that the additional night will not be included in overall ratings comparisons with previous Olympics' coverage. All of the events will be carried live on NBCOlym-pics.com, while about half the events will be carried by NBC's broadcast and cable outlets -- mostly on a delayed basis given the nine-hour difference between the east coast of the U.S. and Sochi.
