Everything is

Nine Black Alps have gone balls out of the bath with this their debut album ‘Everything is’. With the music press endlessly dishing out the next new nirvana tag here there and everywhere you really can’t blame these guys for trying. Not saying that this album does not live up to the hype, only I find it rather stupid and ridiculous that the music press insist on comparing anyone to such a classic band (especially when they sound nothing alike). Not only this but unknowingly gearing them up to head the new uprising of a more traditional style of British Rock is just pinning your hopes on something surely, especially when this is such a hard territory to conquer?

This album sounds like a tribute/mishmash to certain elements of all the early 90’s grungers but with a major rather than indie rock influence thrown in. Mudhoney guitar parts ‘my brother the cow era’ on the initial track to the haunting sonic youth riff in ‘unsatisfied’, it obvious these guy grew up on the stuff. But after listening past the hype the music becomes rather stale and after a period and you realize that this stuff has been done before and its been done to a much higher/superior standard. If you really want a good post-grunge album get Kerbdog’s debut, classic. But if you have heard the singles from this album and like it then the album is pretty much built for you.

5/10
