Equipoise

The very established and well respected L.A. jazz vocalist Dwight Trible has collaborated with Sa-Ra creative partners for this trippy hip hop soul Ninja Tune release. It’s got a real good eighties squelchy funk sound to it that would make Roy Ayers’ ears prick up.

Not a million miles away from the improvisational sixties-inspired avant garde/spiritual jazz that Trible is better known for, Equipoise offers some spicy beats to boot.

Other tracks include waves of infinite harmony which could leave you twitching in the garden after running away from those cockroaches you’ve just imagined coming out of the speakers. It’s got a spooky bad trip thang goin on to say the least, but interesting I’ll give it that.

The final track Otherworldly was my favourite on the disc. It reminded me of Joseph Malik’s style with a nice chilled beat and tickling shakers; really good.

So after a little nibble of Mr. Trible I’m left feeling spellbound and looking forward to hearing more. Well done Ninja tune.
