Review of Band On A Mission Album by Push

UK band Push is back with a new album, 'Band On A Mission' on Push Records. Indeed PUSH have been playing funk, rare groove and soul-jazz for a long time, from the 'Talking Loud' days as regulars at the Dingwalls, during those legendary days in London. Wow! Indeed 'Band On A Mission' is testament to a continuation of love of funk music that continues on in the heartbeat of the UK.

Push Band On A Mission Album

Certainly listening to 'Band On A Mission', you can tell that his band has serious experience! From the core of the band: Crispin Taylor on drums, Ernie McKone on bass, Mark Vandergucht on guitar and new vocalist Daniel Pearce on vocals (known X-Factor fame) plus a multitude of other musicians that range from percussion to keys, horns and guitar, this is a heavy funk band indeed!! The pace of the music is up front funk that really gets you grooving, with some mellow moments too. In fact, I'm sure this would be a great band to see live. New singer Pearce does well and stands out on 'Good Good Thing' and there's even Candi Staton featuring on 'Where I'm At'!

Overall Push has produced an album of funk music that maintains an obvious love for the music. There are clear examples of influences throughout the album of classic funk tracks that any funk lover would instantly recognise. There's no denying great musicianship and tight arrangements on 'Band On A Mission' that delivers a balance of instrumentals and vocal songs. It's clear that PUSH aren't going to let this scene die and whilst there are young ears looking for an education or veterans wanting to hold on to something musical, PUSH aren't going anywhere. This is a fun album with definite good vibrations and despite the predictability of the sound, you can't help but feel this! Not bad.
