'Star Trek' could be going into a whole new direction as it's revealed that Quentin Tarantino is currently developing a story for the franchise with JJ Abrams. The iconic filmmaker is a huge Trekkie - but can we really imagine a Tarantino-ised episode? Apparently, he has a 'great idea'.

According to Deadline, he's set to meet with a group of writers to develop the ideas that he has come up with, and there's even a possibility that he could direct the follow-up to 'Star Trek Beyond' with Abrams producing.

Quentin has previously stated that he would be open to the idea of directing a 'Star Trek' flick. Well... kind of. 'The actual answer is that I would be more inclined to direct a 'Star Trek' rather than 'Star Wars'', he said in a Nerdist podcast.

Of course, Quentin has plenty on his plate without having 'Star Trek' to look after too. He's currently working on an as-yet-untitled biopic about Charles Manson. Meanwhile, JJ Abrams is now working on 'Star Wars: Episode IX' for 2019.

Still, Quentin Tarantino is enough of a fan to be tempted by the project. We imagine that he'd be hit if he made a classic spin on the new story, as inspired by his favourite episodes of 'Star Trek'.

'I think one of the best episodes of Star Trek ever written was for [Star Trek: The Next Generation]," Tarantino said. 'I actually think that ['Yesterday's Enterprise'] is not only one of the great space stories, but the way it dealt with the mythology of the whole thing - that actually could bare a two hour treatment.

'Because they screwed up with the timeline, everything changes. The characters don't know it, but we know it', he went on. 'And the thing about it is, it turns out that the Klingons and the humans on earth have been having this hundred year war that's been going on, and it's just the bloodiest war imaginable in the history of any universe.'
