The World Wrestling Entertainment star Randy Orton was attacked in the ring by a fan during an event in South Africa on Tuesday (July 30, 2013).

As we all know - wrestling isn't real - but things got pretty serious this week when the over-enthusiastic fan jumped over the ropes, sneaked behind Orton and hit him between the legs.

The video shows WWE security running to Orton's aid, but not before the wrestler kicks out at the fan. The fan was arrested at the scene and is currently in police custody.

"Randy was violently attacked from behind by the fan - who was not part of the show - and is now in police custody," said a representative of WWE.

"The extent of Randy's injuries is unclear - we're told docs are checking him out," they added.

"The matter is currently under investigation by the local authorities, and the South African fan is being held in jail pending criminal charges," read a post on the WWE website. "The extent of Orton's injuries are unknown at this time."

This isn't the first time a fan has attacked a player during a sporting event. Anyone remember the fans that jumped Kansas City Royals first base coach Tom Gamboa during a game in 2002? How about when a Leeds United fan shoved Sheffield Wednesday goalkeeper Chris Kirkland during a championship match in 2012?
