Rebel Wilson, the Australian actress who rose to fame with her comedy performances in Bridesmaids and Pitch Perfect is close to signing on to star in the all-female Ghostbusters 3 movie. Bridesmaids director Paul Feig announced in October that he would be helming the movie and he is keen to utilise the female comedy talent in Hollywood.

Wilson told US TV host Matt Lauer that she'd met with Feig, who directed her in Bridesmaids, saying, "I have had a meeting, but who knows? They have to look at the script when it's finished." However, she admitted that "I'd do [Ghostbusters] for free. I probably shouldn't say that live on TV."

Feig announced in October that he would be taking on Dan Aykroyd's project, tweeting, "It's official. I'm making a new Ghostbusters & writing it with @katiedippold & yes, it will star hilarious women. That's who I'm gonna call." It is reckoned that Feig may call upon Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy, whom he worked with on hit comedy The Heat. Gillian Anderson - current star of BBC series The Fall - is another actress who lobbied for a role in the film, writing on Reddit, "Paul Feig, cast me now! Start a Twitter petition! I'm free!!!!! I'm free I'm free and I'm funny, goddamnit!"

The original Ghostbusters, starring Aykroyd and Bill Murray, focused on a team of freelance paranormal investigators fighting off ghouls in New York City. It was a monumental success and spawned an equally well received sequel. Bill Murray has consistently distanced himself the project and will not appear.
