The actress opened up on Good Morning America to restore her slightly scuffed public image
Reese Witherspoon might have recently gotten the first blemish on her previously spotless reputation, but she handled it with more grace than your average celebrity. The Legally Blonde actress appeared on Good Morning America to talk about her recent DUI incident, why it happened, how it went down and why she would never do it again. She referred to the whole thing as just “one of those nights”.
“We went out to a restaurant in Atlanta, and we had one too many glasses of wine,” she explained. “We thought we were fine to drive and we were absolutely not, and we are so sorry and just so embarrassed… We know better and we shouldn’t have done that.”
Much like a “don’t drink and drive” public service announcement, the actress admitted that she and her husband should have taken a cab and that they should have known better, Access Hollywood reports. She also appeared to sincerely regret the way she had treated the police officer, who pulled the couple over that night: “I was so disrespectful to him,” the actress said. “I have police officers in my family. I work with police officers every day. I know better. It’s just unacceptable.”
The conclusion of it all? Reese has learned her lesson and it is a simple one: “When a police officer tells you to stay in a car, you stay in a car.”
There’s probably a lesson in there for the Lindsay Lohans of the world as well.
