Reese Witherspoon is an American actress who first gained recognition for her role in the movie "The Man in the Moon" directed by Robert Mulligan in 1991.
Reese was born in March 1976 in New Orleans, Louisiana Laura Jean Reese Witherspoon and is the daughter of John Witherspoon, a lieutenant colonel in the US Army reserves and Betty Witherspoon a pediatric nurse.
Having schooled in Nashville Reese attended Stanford University, Stanford, California, where she studied English literature.
Reese appeared in the world famous TV show "Friends" as the little sister of Rachel played by Jennifer Aniston. Reese has also acted alongside the likes of Mark Wahlberg, Gene Hackman, Susan Sarandon and Matthew Broderick.
Reese also starred in the dark interpretation of Bret Easton Ellis's ode to 80's greed "American Psycho" alongside Christian Bale.
In 2005 Reese Co-starred opposite Joaquin Phoenix, as June Carter Cash in "Walk the Line," the biopic of late country music legend Johnny Cash, directed by James Mangold.
In 2006 Witherspoon surpassed Hollywood superstar Julia Roberts to become the highest paid actress of all time; she will earn $29 million for the horror film "Our Family Trouble" due for release in 2009.
