Apparently amazing actors don't necessarily make for a good show.
It's not everyday you see top Hollywood stars the likes of Reese Witherspoon, Shailene Woodley and Nicole Kidman band together for a TV drama, but that's what made the prospect of HBO's 'Big Little Lies' all the more exciting. Unfortunately, the story itself has on the whole proved rather mediocre.
Reese Witherspoon stars in 'Big Little Lies'
Based on the 2014 best-selling Liane Moriarty novel of the same name, this 7-episode mini-series seems to be something of a disappointment to the general consensus of critics. It's about a trio of Californian housewives whose children all go to the same elementary school, with their personal lives intertwining and culminating in disaster.

The quality of the animation in this musical comedy may not be up to Pixar standards, but the story and characters are thoroughly endearing. And the music is fabulous. As it follows a group of likeable animals through a variety of plots and adventures, there's plenty for everyone in the audience to connect with. So even if the climactic action mayhem gets a bit ridiculous, the movie keeps us laughing. And it also makes us want to get up on that stage and belt out a few numbers.
It's set in a city populated by animals. Buster (voiced by Matthew McConaughey) is a koala who has been obsessed with musical theatre since he saw the diva Nana (Jennifer Hudson then Jennifer Saunders) perform when he was a child. So he grew up and bought the theatre. Now with audiences waning, he stages a musical competition to save the theatre. In the auditions, he selects his finalists: anarchist porcupine Ash (Scarlett Johansson), jazzy mafioso mouse Mike (Seth MacFarlane) and silky voiced gorilla Johnny (Taron Egerton). He also teams up two pigs as a double-act: frazzled housewife Rosita (Reese Witherspoon) and German dancer Gunter (Nick Kroll). There's also golden-voiced elephant Meena (Tori Kelly), who's too shy to face the audience so takes a role backstage. Of course, nothing goes as planned.
The key conflict comes from Buster's frantic efforts to avoid bankruptcy, plus rather half-hearted action subplots involving a gang of bears and Johnny's criminally minded relatives. These generate quite a bit of tension that erupts into rather outrageously destructive slapstick along the way. More interesting are the personal journeys of the various contestants, especially as Ash, Meena and Johnny all discover their voices and Rosita finds inventive ways to balance her long-lost career with her role as a mother to 25 rambunctious piglets. Yes, the film is rather crowded with characters and storylines, and the animation looks plasticky, but everything comes together cleverly,

Joaquin Phoenix and Paul Thomas Anderson are back with another team effort. The trailer for Inherent Vice dropped on Monday and, going on that alone, we’ll call this a must-see. It’s an adaptation of Thomas Pichon’s novel of the same name and follows stoner P.I. Larry “Doc” Sportello (Phoenix) as he investigates the disappearance of his ex-girlfriend’s (Katherine Waterston) wealthy boyfriend. Besides Phoenix himself, the film stars Josh Brolin as the stuffy LAPD detective Christian “Bigfoot” Bjornson, while Reese Witherspoon plays deputy DA Penny Kimball. Reese Witherspoon laughs about her April arrest ordeal as Chelsea Handler brings it up at the Elle awards show yesterday.
The talk show host is not particularly known for biting her tongue about uncomfortable subjects regarding her fellow celebrities, but her Legally Blonde actress pal didn't seem to mind as she chuckled at a joke Handler made about her troubles with the law. 'Personally, as a true friend, my favourite project of hers was an overlooked short film that she made earlier this year', she began at the awards ceremony on Monday (October 21st 2013). 'She plays a very inebriated housewife defending her inebriated husband.'
The quip referred to an incident in April when she and her husband Jim Toth were pulled over in Atlanta because the latter appeared to the cops to be over the legal alcohol limit. The Oscar winning actress, rather than wait in the car as she was told, got out and started hurling abuse at the police officer which ended up with her being arrested for disorderly conduct.
Actor Ben Affleck is strongly rumoured to be circling the role of Nick in the adaptation of Gillian Flynn's bestselling novel.
Actor and perpetual nice guy Ben Affleck is reportedly in line to play lead character Nick, whose wife Amy goes missing on their fifth anniversary, in Gone Girl - the David Fincher-directed adaptation of Gillian Flynn's hugely successful 2012 thriller in which suspense is created in Nick being is suspected for his wife's murder and disappearance.
Could Ben Affleck Take The Role Of Nick?
The Hollywood Reporter reckons Affleck's got the gig, with Flynn writing the screenplay and Reese Witherspoon and Leslie Dixon producing. It had been originally rumoured that Reece Witherspoon might play Amy as well as produce the movie, but apparently she won't be in front of the camera this time. It is not yet known whether Fincher's adaptation of Gone Girl will follow the choppy backwards-forwards narrative style of the novel, where the plotline is interspersed with extracts from Amy's diary but if his 2011 The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo remake is anything to go by, it will be a quality piece of faithful filmmaking indeed.
Gone Girl seems to have found its male lead.
The production team of David Fincher’s upcoming Gone Girl is reportedly courting Ben Affleck for the lead role. The script is based on Gillian Flynn’s eponymous bestseller and the screenplay has been written by Flynn herself.
David Fincher will direct the Gillian Flynn adaptation.
The premise is a classic crime/thriller setup. During a young couple’s five-year anniversary, the wife goes missing. The husband quickly emerges as the prime suspect and is then forced to prove his innocence and, of course, find his wife. Affleck might be signing on for the part of the husband. A bit of background on Affleck’s potential character, Nick Dunne – he is a former writer and current bartender, who leaves behind the disappointments of New York to move with his wife back to his hometown in the Midwest. Rural peace and quiet ensue. Until the disappearance that is. Overall, this sounds like a part right up Affleck’s alley and apparently, it is only the potential for scheduling conflicts that is still holding back the actor.
The Reese Witherspoon arrest video trilogy is now a quadrilogy, with TMZ posting another angle of the infamous arrest online on Friday.
Reese Witherspoon shocked just about everyone last month when the seemingly golden girl of Hollywood was arrested for disorderly conduct following a confrontation with police whilst her husband, Jim Toth, was being cited for drunk driving. Anyway some good news did come out of the whole fiasco in the end; it was filmed and now the the whole scenario is available to watch online thanks to TMZ.
The celebrity gossip site published three videos of the incident on Thursday (May 2) and a fourth on Friday (May 3), with the latest one not featuring the Oscar-winning actress in the flesh, but making her various comments to the police very easy to hear. After Witherspoon argues with the cop, name-dropping herself in an attempt to get out of trouble a few times, the dashboard camera-filmed clip features a heated exchange between Witherspoon and Toth, with the actress questioning why her husband is even being arrested in the first place. She says, "I'm an American citizen, I can say whatever I want to on free ground. He does not have jurisdiction over the ground he speaks on. He does not. I'm allowed to say anything I want to say."

Reese Witherspoon's arrest video is full of classic moments. Mainly about being an American citizen.
A new video of Reese Witherspoon's arrest in Georgia has been released online, much to the delight of internet users. In a cringe worthy clip from start to finish, Witherspoon is seen being handcuffed and arrested after arguing with police who had begun questioning her husband Jim Toth for DUI.
The footage - which the police insist they did not leak - shows the Oscar winner getting out of her car to defend her husband only to be apprehended by officers. Here's the five cringiest moments:
1. "I'm a US citizen and I am allowed to stand on American ground and ask any question I want to ask." HAHA. Yep, Witherspoon actually said she was allowed to stand on American ground and ask any question she wanted.

Reese Witherspoon explained her surprising arrest as just one of those "crazy nights."
Reese Witherspoon has dusted herself down and received some pretty sensible PR advice in the wake of her arrest in Atlanta, Georgia earlier this month. The actress spoke out for the first time on the incident during Thursday’s Good Morning America, apologizing profusely while also remaining amiable and reminding audiences that she’s just little old Reese Witherspoon.
“It's one of those nights," Witherspoon told GMA's George Stephanopoulos. “We went out to dinner in Atlanta, had one too many glasses of wine. We thought we were fine to drive and we absolutely were not. And it's just completely unacceptable. And we are so sorry and embarrassed. And we know better.” Stephanopoulos asked the 37-year-old why she and husband Jim Toth did not opt to call a cab after drinking, though all Witherspoon could offer was “just poor judgement.” The actress shocked her fans when it was reported she had played the celebrity card to get her husband off the hook, asking cops “do you know name?” though she also admitted to Stephanopoulos that she falsely claimed to be pregnant. “I think I've played a lawyer so many times in movies, I think I am a lawyer — and clearly I'm not a lawyer. So, I learned a lot,” she added.
Incidentally, Witherspoon’s next movie is titled The Good Lie, about a Sudanese refugee who is taken in by a straight-talking American woman in their new home in the United States. It hits theaters in December 2013.

The actress opened up on Good Morning America to restore her slightly scuffed public image
Reese Witherspoon might have recently gotten the first blemish on her previously spotless reputation, but she handled it with more grace than your average celebrity. The Legally Blonde actress appeared on Good Morning America to talk about her recent DUI incident, why it happened, how it went down and why she would never do it again. She referred to the whole thing as just “one of those nights”.
“We went out to a restaurant in Atlanta, and we had one too many glasses of wine,” she explained. “We thought we were fine to drive and we were absolutely not, and we are so sorry and just so embarrassed… We know better and we shouldn’t have done that.”
Much like a “don’t drink and drive” public service announcement, the actress admitted that she and her husband should have taken a cab and that they should have known better, Access Hollywood reports. She also appeared to sincerely regret the way she had treated the police officer, who pulled the couple over that night: “I was so disrespectful to him,” the actress said. “I have police officers in my family. I work with police officers every day. I know better. It’s just unacceptable.”

In a jam packed and fairly unforgettable week in Hollywood, Reese Witherspoon was arrested, Jennifer Lawrence debuted her new shorter locks, and Justin Bieber continues to do his best to forget about his pet monkey.
Walk The Line: arrested?! That was our first thought upon hearing the news this week. The amiable Louisiana native and all-round darling of Hollywood was cuffed by cops after getting rowdy over her husband Jim Toth's arrest. Oh, and she pulled out the "do you know who I am?" line. Cringe.
New Hair Alert: Jennifer Lawrence sort of stole the show at the GLAAD Media Awards this week, despite the appearance of former President of the United States, Bill Clinton. Debuting a shorter, darker hairstyle, Lawrence sent the social media world into overdrive. What do you think of the change?
Just in case you simply didn't believe that Reese had been cuffed by the cops... here's the evidence
New video footage of Reese Witherspoon, under arrest, has been released online, courtesy of Associated Press. If you’re a fan of silent movies, you’ll love this one. The footage, seemingly from CCTV and without any sound, shows Reese Witherspoon exiting a police car, as a policeman gently removes her handcuffs. As reality TV clips go, it’s a little lacking in drama, or substance, or, you know.. anything of interest, but just in case you didn’t believe the original stories about Reese getting herself handcuffed and arrested for disorderly conduct, well, here’s the blurry, distant footage that confirms that someone who, from a distance, definitely COULD be Reese Witherspoon, had a pair of handcuffs removed by a policeman, in a parking lot, somewhere. Not sure about you guys, but we’re kinda reeling from this one.
In case you weren’t already aware, Reese committed a terrible celebrity sin earlier this week and paid the price by getting herself arrested, in the process. What was this atrocious celebrity misdemeanour, I hear you ask… Reese pulled the ‘don’t you know who I am’ card, when the cops pulled her husband Jim Toth on suspicion of DUI. That’s right, folks. That old classic. She even warned the police that they’d be all over the national news if they didn’t leave poor hubby alone.
Turns out that the joke was on Reese, as it was her name that all over the news the next day and frankly, the press didn’t look too favourably on her arrogant antics. She did apologise, saying she had “nothing but respect for the police.” Just … not after she’s had a couple of drinks, we guess.

Actress Reese Witherspoon was arrested on Friday for disorderly conduct following her husband's run-in with the law thanks to his reckless driving.
Reese Witherspoon Arrested. Resse Witherspoon, one of Hollywood's golden girls - the ones who can seemingly do no wrong in their personal and (usually) professional life - was taken into police custody on Friday (April 19) after the star began acting hostile around police who had pulled over her husband, talent agent Jim Toth, for allegedly driving under the influence. Reese was a passenger in the car at the time and allegedly became very hostile with the cops when she and Jim were pulled in Atlanta, Georgia in the early hours of Friday.

The Oscar-Winning actress was apparently waiting in the passenger seat of her husband's car whilst he was being cited, but became increasingly more irate with each passing second. According to Variety, the actress twice got out of the car, even after being told to remain inside, and repeatedly asked the Atlanta cops if they knew who she was and when the police officer revealed that he didn't know who she was, she answered, "You're about to find out who I am. ... You are going to be on national news."
Jessica Chastain and Jennifer Lawrence battle over Best Actress, Denzel Washington and Daniel Day-Lewis meet over Best Actor And Anne Hathaway favorite for Best Supporting Actress. While Iceman (James Franco, Winona Ryder) and Mud (Matthew McConnaughey and Reese Witherspoon) Trailers Hit The Web.
It's awards season for the film industry, so it's no coincidence that most stories this week centre on actors and filmmakers who are up for a variety of statuettes. Last Sunday's Golden Globes are increasingly seen as a little more than a promotional opportunity for hopeful Oscar nominees, and since they have winners in both drama and musical/comedy categories, they can spread the love around more than other groups. Unlike most years, there is no movie poised to sweep the Oscars this year.
Although Jessica Chastain for Zero Dark Thirty is gaining on her, Jennifer Lawrence for Silver Linings Playbook is the front-runner for Best Actress. Facing a huge crowd of fans, she stopped to sign autographs and pose for photos on her way to David Letterman's show this week.

Matthew Mcconaughey and Camila Alves have put an end to the rumours that their new baby is a girl. Despite initial reports suggesting that their child was a daughter, McConaughey put the record straight with a Facebook post welcoming their new son to the world. “Camila Alves gave birth to our third child yesterday morning. Our son, Livingston Alves McConaughey was born at 7:43am on 12.28.12. He greeted the world at 9lbs. and 21 inches,” wrote McConaughey. He then added “Bless up and thank you for your well wishes. Happy New year, and just keep livin, Camila and Matthew McConaughey.”
What a brilliant end to a brilliant year for those two; they got married back in June, at their home in Austin, Texas, in a relaxed ceremony that took place amidst a three day celebration. Their guests included Reese Witherspoon, Woody Harrelson and Kenny Chesney.
The couple already have two children; a four year-old named Levi and a three year old named Vida. It’s no surprise then that they chose a less-than-conventional name for young Livingstone. Since McConaughey posted the details of his son’s name on Facebook, the source of Livingstone McConaughey’s will no doubt become the source of much speculation. The Dallas Buyer’s Club hasn’t given the game away just yet, though, so we’ll all have to keep guessing.
In the wake of the tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut, a number of Hollywood celebrities have banded together to create the “Demand a Plan” video, which urges politicians to take decisive action against gun violence and the public to demand said action from their representatives.
The video for demand a plan features a number of A-listers, including Beyonce Knowles, Amy Poehler, John Hamm, Elen DeGeneres and Reese Witherspoon among many others. The video is part of a larger effort to bring about increased gun control in the US. Another part of the campaign is a petition, available to sign at demandaplan.com, which demands the imposition of a criminal background check for every gun, sold in America, a total ban on assault weapons and high-capacity magazines, as well as the criminalization of gun trafficking.
Among those advocating the changes is actor Jamie Foxx, who has recently been very vocal with his opinions about violence and the media’s influence. All of this will come into play in the heated debate for and against increased gun regulation, with the other key player in all this being the now infamous NRA or National Rifle Association, advocating for the right to bear arms as a “means of self defense” and constitutional right. The association hasn’t clarified what kind of situation warrants the use of assault rifles. President Obama is yet to take any stance on the matter, despite continued appeals from both sides of the debate.

On the same day that the NRA calls for there to be armed guards at all schools, celebrities have come together to film a campaign video for 'Demand a Plan', which asks the government to do just that- come up with a plan to tackle the national epidemic of gun violence. The plan that the NRA offers is definitely not the answer that these celebs are after.
As stars, including Beyonce, Jamie Foxx, Jessica Alba, Reese Witherspoon, Will Ferrell, Zooey Deschanel and John Legend, among many more, speak the names of cities, and the names of places, they also ask their core question: How many more? Fundamentally, there can't be any more, enough is enough. And this is precisely why they are demanding a plan. The video- which you can see below- is linked to the Demand a Plan website, the homepage of which has three main requests:
1. Require a criminal background check for every gun sold in America
Megan Fox made a much-anticipated return to the red carpet some three months after giving birth to baby boy Noah in September of this year. Fox was in the eye of the paparazzi in Los Angeles, as she arrived with her husband Brian Austin Green at the March of Dimes Celebration of Babies luncheon. The event is for the parenting charity of the same name and saw them honor another new mother in fellow actress Reese Witherspoon.
OK Magazine reports that Fox was looking completely like her old self, the baby fat accumulated during her pregnancy long since gone as she arrived wearing a fitted white lace dress. Despite the star’s pregnancy she’s still had some work to do this year, promoting an appearance in the forthcoming film This Is 40, out December 21. It’s unknown how hectic her work schedule will be next, though, she may well opt to spend some much deserved time raising her new son.
As for Witherspoon, she was presented with the Grace Kelly Award in recognition of her status as a parental role model and said: "We are parents that know the joy of having a beautiful, brilliant, joyful, perfect baby. That somehow heaven has opened up and delivered us an angel (who) looks adorable in every angle of an iPhone photo. And, in my case, looks gorgeous printed on a bag or a pillow or an iPhone cover - anything you can get on TinyPrints (printing website)!"
Eddie Murphy has topped one of Forbes magazine's annual lists for 2012, though unfortunately for him, it details the world's most overpaid actors. The actor - who was reportedly commanding $20 million a movie around the turn of the millennium - returns just $2.30 for every $1 he is paid for each of his films.
The stats make Murphy the most overpaid actor in Hollywood, with recent flops including Meet Dave, Imagine That and comedy Tower Heist concreting his No.1 spot. The latter was the most successful of Murphy's recent flicks though it still only earned $152 million on a $75 million budget. The Beverly Hills Cop star can probably take solace in the fact that he returns SOME amount of money for investors, with 2011's most overpaid Hollywood star Drew Barrymore bringing in just 40 cents for every $1 she was paid. Murphy could claw himself out of the list in the next couple of years, with one movie in particular already generating hype. Murphy has signed on to star in Ivan Reitman's comedy Triplets, a sequel of the classic Twins, starring Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny Devito. The film revisits both of the original characters Julius and Vincent as they discover they have a third sibling, played by Murphy. Even if the movie was a critical dud, Triplets would almost certainly do good business at the box-office.
Elsewhere on this year's most overpaid actors list, Katherine Heigl placed at No.2 after returning just $3.40 for every $1 she was paid for her movies. After past commercial hits including Knocked Up, Heigl has appeared in a couple of romantic-comedy bombs such as One For The Money, which took just $37 million. Reese Witherspoon was in at No.3 with $3.90 for every $1 paid, while Nicolas Cage brought in $6 for every $1.

The mantle of most overpaid actor sounds good, doesn't it? It suggests that Eddie Murphy, who has been awarded the title by Forbes, is just sitting around in his huge mansion and getting paid for it. But it's not that simple...
Forbes have calculated that for every dollar Murphy was paid for his last three films, they returned an average of $2.30 at the box office, so, suddenly, the title becomes somewhat unwanted. So what happened for Murphy? His 90's classics; Trading Places and Beverly Hills Cop were huge, and his voice work in Shrek and Mulan and family-friendly roles in Norbit and Dr. Dolittle have prolonged his successful career into the noughties. But his recent films; Imagine That, A Thousand Words, Meet Dave, and Tower Heist, flopped at the box office, and have brought down his dollar average, propelling him to the top of the overpaid actors list. Still, one more smash hit and that could all change. So, you must be wondering who makes up the top 10, and not to worry, as we have it right here!
1. Eddie Murphy - Returns $2.30 for every $1 paid.
It's not a combination anyone ever predicted, but Reese Witherspoon will star in and produce Wild, an adaptation of Cheryl Strayed's memoir written by Nick Horny.
"Nick's innate blend of humanity and humour are a perfect match for Cheryl's raw emotional memoir," noted Witherspoon according to The Sun. "I look forward to collaborating with both of these talented writers to create a film full of honesty, adventure and self- discovery." Nick seems equally excited about working together, saying in a statement: "I loved Cheryl Strayed's memoir. It's moving, funny, painful and brave, and the moment I'd finished it I wanted someone to let me have a go at adapting it, because it was clear to me that it could make a wonderful movie." He added, "I'm thrilled to be given the chance; the fact that this chance was given to me by Reese Witherspoon, a great actress who feels exactly the same way about the book as I do, makes this project all the more exciting."
Wild explores the American author's struggle to cope after her mother's death and the breakdown of her marriage as she embarks on a challenging 1,100-mile hike along the Pacific coast to work through her issues. Hornby, of course, is famous for penning About A Boy - the book that made it's way onto the big screen with great success - but he's now trying his hand at writing directly for the screen.
Lindsay Lohan's priorities have, for some years, been something of a mystery. She prioritised drinking over safe driving, she also managed to de-prioritise that odd tradition commonly known as paying-for-stuff when she stole a necklace from an LA jewellers, and recently on Twitter she prioritised tax breaks for people “listed on Forbes as 'millionaires'”. One might think this was a joke, however, she confirmed her change of political heart this week when she told reporters, published on Newsday.com, that “as of now” she would be supporting “Mitt Romney... as of now.”
This is a huge turn around from the 2008 elections in which she ardently supported Barack Obama's campaign. She even requested to volunteer for the campaign, but was rejected because, as one Democratic Aide said, she's just 'not exactly the kind of high-profile star who would be a positive for us' (DailyMail.com). To explain her reasons for her changed support, she said “I just think employment is really important right now." Which is certainly a valid point, but somewhat misguided. Plus, it has been reported that she asked for a tax cut from Obama- who rejected her- which points towards slightly more personal reasons for her change of heart.
Other celebrity supporters for the Republican candidate are Stacey Dash, who expressed her support via Twitter and faced a barrage of abuse for it, also music artist Nicki Minaj (who has since revealed that she was joking), Jerry Bruckheimer (responsibly for shows such as CSI and Pirates of the Caribbean), Gene Simmons, Donald Trump, Chuck Norris and lifelong Republican Clint Eastwood.

Drew Barrymore welcomed her first child, and has named her new baby daughter Olive, reports US Weekly.
"We are proud to announce the birth of our daughter, Olive Barrymore Kopelman, born September 26th, healthy, happy and welcomed by the whole family," the couple says in a statement. "Thank you for respecting our privacy during this most special time in our lives." Barrymore married art consultant Will Kopelman back in June in a Jewish ceremony at their estate in Montecito, southern California. They began dating back in 2010. Cameron Diaz, Reese Witherspoon, Jim Toth and Jimmy Fallon were among those who attended the ceremony. "Everyone knows the baby's coming, so there wasn't much talk about it," a source revealed about Drew Barrymore’s wedding. "Will said something like, 'I'm excited to marry you. I'm excited to meet the newest member of our family.” It seems as though babies were always on the cards for the couple: "They have been trying to get pregnant," one source shared. "That's why they got engaged . . . They are very happy! She's ready to settle down and be a mom."
Barrymore has come a long way since her cinematic bow in the sci-fi family epic E.T. She has now played myriad roles in films like The Wedding Singer, Scream and Charlie’s Angels, as well as performing voice-acting roles in Family Guy and The Simpsons. And she can now add the role of proud mum to her impressive discography. Kopelman is the son of former Chanel executive Arie Kopelman.
Reese Witherspoon is a mother for the third time, as she and husband Jim Toth welcomed baby boy Tennessee James into the world, US Weekly confirmed today.
Tennessee James is the pair’s first child, with the actress being mother to daughter Ava, 12, and son Deacon, 8, with ex-husband Ryan Phillippe. Having divorced each other in 2006 following seven years of marriage, she and Toth, a CAA agent, tied the knot in March 2011 at the actress' $10 million ranch in Ojai, California after over a year together.
Back in March, a source close to the pair admitted they she was a little apprehensive about having another child, however Toth’s ease at getting along with her two children all but made up her mind. The source then revealed that Reese had become taken with the idea of settling down with Toth and wanted to start a family with him.

Reese Witherspoon’s baby boy has finally arrived, though anticipation has been building for an announcement on the little guy’s name. The actress and husband Jim Toth finally announced the news late on Thursday, introducing ‘Tennessee James’, reports Reuters.
Young Tennessee joins Witherspoon’s two older children, Ava, 12, and son Deacon, 9, from her first marriage to Ryan Phillippe. Resse and Jim’s spokesman Meredith O’Sullivan Wasson said in a statement, “Reese Witherspoon and husband Jim Toth welcomed Tennessee James into their family today. Both mom and baby are healthy and the entire family is thrilled.” The ‘Legally Blonde’ actress married talent agent Toth at her ranch in California in March this year. The reasons for her choice of name for her latest child are obvious – the 36-year-old grew up in Nashville, Tennessee, and has always kept a keen hold on her heritage throughout her career in Hollywood. She won an Oscar in 2005 for her work on the country music film ‘Walk The Line’.
Naming babies after states seems to becoming ever more popular. Actor Casey Affleck and his wife Summer Phoenix (actor Joaquin’s sister) welcomed their son ‘Indiana’ in 2004. Ethan Hawke and wife RYAN SHAWHUGHES opted for the same name when their baby daughter arrived in 2011.
Reese Witherspoon has named her new baby boy Tennessee James, reports The Huffington Post. He was born yesterday (September 27th).
The 36-year-old's third child is guaranteed a shot at acting with a name like that. Witherspoon already has two little ones from her previous marriage with Ryan Phillippe; Ava, 12, and Deacon, 8. Linda Rosenkrantz, co-founder of Nameberry.com, has some explanations behind naming techniques employed by parents. "It's a trend that had its roots starting in the late 1980s," she said," with several celebs picking names from the American West, like Austin, Dallas and Dakota, including Melanie Griffith and Don Johnson, whose now grown daughter Dakota is the star of a new sitcom. But lately the trend seems to be heating up and much more widespread." Celebrities seem to be obsessed with choosing never-heard-before names for their offspring, and are looking far and wide for names that fit the bill: "The current trend seems to be really exotic-sounding spots, like Morocco, Egypt and Asia, and states rather than countries or cities -- Alabama, Arizona, Indiana and yes, Tennessee."
Laura Jeanne Reese Witherspoon made her name in 2001, with her breakout role as Elle Woods in the box office hit Legally Blonde, after bagging a Golden Globe nomination for the critically acclaimed Election. She also garnered critical praise for her performance in Walk The Line alongside Joaquin Phoenix.

Having now seen "Little Nicky," in which Adam Sandler plays the retarded son of Satan, I have formulated a hypothesis I'm calling the Sandler Theory of Exponentially Obnoxious Returns. It goes something like this:
Adam Sandler goes out of his way to make each gimmick character he plays ("Billy Madison," "Happy Gilmore") more grating than the last, just to see how far he can push it before his easily amused fan base will turn on him.
His most detestable character to date had been "The Waterboy," but that Southern-fried dope was mister congeniality compared to Nicky, the little devil that couldn't. Sandler spends this entire movie with his face screwed up in a hit-by-a-shovel grimace and speaking in a silly, raspy voice like a little kid pretending to be sick so he can stay home from school. There's no joke here. It's just Sandler's version of stretching as an actor.

Making only a minimal effort to be any different or better than the hundreds of other forgettable, predictable, almost-married-the-wrong-guy romantic comedies that have come before it, "Sweet Home Alabama" has the benefit of a talented, appealing cast and the burden of being entirely dependent on clichés to drive its story.
Reese Witherspoon stars as Melanie Carmichael, a rising-star designer in New York's fashion world who is downright giddy about her new engagement to the political mover-and-shaker son (Patrick Dempsey) of the city's image-conscious mayor (Candice Bergen). In the movie's most romantic scene, Mr. Wonderful proposes by getting down on one knee at Tiffany's, which he's arranged to stay open after hours, and telling her to pick any ring she wants.
But there's one little wrinkle Melanie's fiancé doesn't know about: Before she can marry him, she'll have to divorce her hayseed childhood sweetheart back in small-town Alabama. A handsome, blue-eyed charmer named Jake (Josh Lucas, "A Beautiful Mind") with a playful Paul Newman smirk, she did nothing but fight with him once the magic wore off their relationship, so Melanie bailed out to follow her ambition.
