Renee Zellweger has hired a voice coach to help her regain her English accent for Bridget Jones’ Baby, according to reports in a British tabloid. The 46-year-old American actor has previously played Bridget in two previous films but, in all fairness to Zellweger, it has been a while since she needed to put on Bridget’s posh accent.

It’s been 11 years since Zellweger last starred as Bridget in the second film in the popular movie franchise, Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason. Now, with filming for Bridget Jones’ Baby underway in London, a source working on the upcoming film has claimed Zellweger is having trouble remembering how she mastered Bridget’s English accent.

Zellweger previously created her own English accent for the first two films but she needs a little help this time round. The source, speaking to The Mirror, claims Zellweger has been working on her accent with a voice coach and understands the importance of ensuring her accent is as good as it was in the previous two films.

“Renee’s plummy English accent became one of Bridget’s best known characteristics in the films - and of course she came up with it herself,” the source revealed. “But with such a long time passing between the last movie and now, she’s actually not completely certain how she did it - so has brought in an expert to make sure it’s spot on.”

“Bridget’s distinctive accent was a big aspect of the character’s on-screen persona, so it’s essential it’s spot on - fans of the movies remember it very clearly.”

Zellweger is reprising her role as Bridget in Bridget Jones’ Baby, due to be released next year. She is starring opposite Colin Firth, who is returning to the franchise as Mark Darcy, and newcomer Patrick Dempsey

Bridget Jones’ Baby will be released in cinemas from September 16th 2016.
