Ricky Gervais thinks Oscar Wilde would've been ''trolled'' on Twitter if he was alive today.
The 53-year-old comedian believes 'The Picture of Dorian Gray' author would've been ''fun'' to follow on social media if it had been available when he was alive.
Ricky said: ''Oscar Wilde would have been fun (to follow on Twitter). He'd have loved it. But then ... if Twitter had been around, I think these famous dead people, their legend wouldn't be intact. They'd be trolled. Just think of that, if trolls were around, if they had Twitter then ... Churchill trying to do a speech, just someone putting him off.''
The 'Derek' star also admitted the ''public Ricky'' is a lot shyer than the ''private Ricky'' because he worries things he says will be ''taken the wrong way'' by the media.
Speaking to NYLON magazine, Ricky said: ''I suppose the real public Ricky, me out in public is probably shyer, particularly with things being reported and taken the wrong way.''
The 'Office' actor presented the Golden Globes three years running between 2010 and 2012 and his appearances became infamous for his risque gags but he has advised future hosts of the award show to do the same, and not ''worry about anyone''.
He said: ''Be as funny and interesting as you can and don't worry about anyone really. There's nothing in it for them. You know, winning an award isn't really a spectator sport, so I tried to make it one.''
