Since 2008, the gap between the rich and poor has grown at an exponential rate, with the rich getting richer, and the poor getting poorer. All the while, the bankers responsible for the Great Recession have gone unpunished. Now, multi-millionaire comedian, actor, author and self-styled activist, Russell Brand, is heading straight to the doors of those bankers and banks, to make them apologise for what they have done.
Directed by Michael Winterbottom ('24 Hour Party People', 'The Road to Guantanamo'), 'The Emperor's New Clothes' is an upcoming "documentary" by comedian-turned activist Russell Brand, and produced by Brand's own production company Revolution Films. The film's executive producers are Andrew Eaton ('24 Hour Party People', 'The Road to Guantanamo') and Nik Linnen ('Russell Brand's Ponderland', 'Russell Brand: Scandalous', 'Brand X with Russell Brand'). Filming began in October 2014, when the filmmakers cancelled the original idea of adapting Russell Brand's memoir, 'My Booky Wook', into a feature film. 'The Emperor's New Clothes' is set to premiere in London on 21st April 2015, and will make an appearance at the Tribeca Film Festival in the US on 24th April 2015, coinciding with the UK theatrical release.
