Ryan Gosling loved being reunited with Emma Stone in 'Gangster Squad'.

The duo starred opposite each other in 2011 in rom-com 'Crazy, Stupid, Love' and look to rediscover their chemistry in the new crime drama.

Ryan admits he doesn't find it strange being back in somewhat familiar territory with his co-star, and instead he thinks it makes for a better performance.

He told Shortlist magazine: ''I love the idea of working with the same people.

''You spend most of the time getting to know a person, getting to know how they work, developing a shorthand together.

''So it's nice to be able to go into a second picture with them and hit the ground running.

''You're able to do better work and you don't waste time with formalities.

The 32-year-old actor and Emma, 24, are joined in the cast by the likes of Sean Penn and Josh Brolin and while he admitted it can be hard to stay straight-faced when he's with his 'Crazy, Stupid, Love' co-star, the ensemble made for a great experience.

He said: ''It's tough with Emma because we are such knuckleheads, and we have to be serious. Especially as we got to know each other on a comedy.

''And it was incredible to get to work with all of those guys - not only the Seas and Joshs, but Giovanni Ribisi and Robert Patrick. it was a great group of guys.''
