Sean Penn's relief organisation will sponsor ten runners in the upcoming New York City marathon.

Penn's 'J/P Haitian Relief Organization' will include five runners from Haiti to complete the 26 mile road race, he recently said;

"We've got five Haitian runners, 10 runners total, running for the team representing Haiti and our organization J/P HRO coming to the New York City Marathon -- the marathon. So we're really looking forward to it."

The 53 year-old actor also commented on the sponsorship at the world premiere of fantasy film 'The Secret Life Of Walter Mitty' at the New York Film Festival on October 5th.

"It's rewarding. I just came back from Port-au-Prince, where I visited our Haitian marathon runners, and to see that great discipline that Haitians have and that great spirit and the excitement that they have visiting New York for the first time."

Penn began the relief organisation shortly after the disastrous earthquake with a magnitude of 7.0 that destroyed Haiti in 2010, killing more than 100,000 people. The organisation set up medical clinics and camps for residents whose homes were destroyed.

Actress and Model, Pamela Anderson, has recently given her support to Penn's organisation and confirmed she is going to run the marathon in an attempt to raise $500,000 to donate to it.

The 46-year-old star recently wrote on Twitter: "I was in Haiti shortly after the earthquake to help with local farms and food distribution in tent camps", and also posting, "I'm running the NYC Marathon this year and raising funds for the J/P Haitian Relief Organization".

The New York City marathon will be held on November 3rd 2013.
