System Of A Down

An album that feels all too appropriate to be celebrating given the current political climate is the much acclaimed second album from Armenian-American alt/nu metal titans System Of A Down. Toxicity was released 19 years ago today via American Recordings and Columbia Records, featuring their most iconic single Chop Suey!.

This sophomore release co-produced by Rick Rubin launched System of a Down to international stardom. It reached number one in the US charts, thanks to the more accessible melodic sound which their massively underrated self-titled debut lacked.

System Of A Down fans are no doubt set to get super excited over the band's announcement of a brand new set of US tour dates, marking their first tour of the nation in over three years, their last being an appearance at Riot Fest in Chicago in September 2015.

The alt-rock band, who reformed in 2010 after a four year hiatus, will return to the US in the Fall for five dates. It's been a while since they were last on the road, completing their last set of US dates in 2015 during their 'Wake Up the Souls' tour, commemorating the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide.

Another Download Festival has come and gone and this year was an absolute smash of an event with System Of A Down, Biffy Clyro and Aerosmith headlining the main stage. Donington Park was definitely the place to be with its four stages of the heaviest music you'll hear all year.

Kicking off the first day of the festival on Friday (June 9th 2017) saw System of a Down headlining, throwing out some of their most popular hits like 'Chop Suey', 'Toxicity' and 'Sugar'. Also on the main stage were Five Finger Death Punch, Mastodon and Prophets of Rage.

Released on this day (June 30th 2016) in 1998 was System Of A Down's self-titled debut album; a record that brought a fresh new sound to 90s avant-garde rock as it was. Featuring epic singles like 'Sugar' and 'Spiders', rock music has never been the same since these guys moved on to the scene.

The artist... System Of A Down are Armenian Americans who formed as an alternative metal band in 1994 in California. Made up of Serj Tankian, Daron Malakian, Shavo Odadjian and John Dolmayan, they have released five albums between 1998 and 2005 very much combining elements of punk, thrash metal and 90s rock, and they won a Grammy award for Best Hard Rock Performance in 2006 for their single 'B.Y.O.B.'.
