Taylor Swift called Nicki Minaj to apologise to her over their MTV Video Music Awards Twitter spat.

The 'Bad Blood' singer personally phoned Nicki to say sorry for mistakenly thinking the rapper was taking a swipe at her in a series of tweets where she blasted her lack of nominations at the VMAs and Nicki graciously accepted her apology.

Speaking on 'Good Morning America', Nicki said: ''I spoke to Taylor Swift on the phone. She was super, super sweet and she said sorry. She said, 'Look, you know I didn't understand the big picture of what you were saying, but now I get it, so we're all good.'''

Asked if they might ever collaborate, Nicki said: ''I'm sure we can. You know why? Because it takes a big person to do what Taylor did and everyone sometimes speaks out of turn, you know? I've been there. Sometimes we do things and we don't think right away or we don't investigate and then we just talk, so it was big of her to come out and say that. So yes, we spoke for a long time. We were cracking up laughing on the phone.''

While Taylor thought Nicki's tweet saying, ''If your video celebrates women with very slim bodies, you will be nominated for vid of the year,'' was aimed at her, Nicki was actually calling attention to prejudice against black women in the industry.

Taylor also said sorry on Twitter for ''misspeaking'', writing: ''I thought I was being called out. I missed the point, I misunderstood, then misspoke. I'm sorry, Nicki.''

And happily for the 25-year-old singer, Nicki, 32, accepted the apology.

She tweeted: ''That means so much Taylor, thank you...

''I've always loved her. Everyone makes mistakes. She gained so much more respect from me. Let's move on.''

The spat between Taylor and Nicki erupted after the latter slammed the VMA shortlist after her 'Feeling Myself' promo missed out entirely and 'Anaconda' was overlooked for the top prize, Video of the Year.

Taylor - who received nine nominations in total, including for Video of the Year and Best Female - felt Nicki's tweets were aimed at her due to her 'Bad Blood' promo being up for Video of the Year and replied: ''I've done nothing but love & support you. It's unlike you to pit women against each other. Maybe one of the men took your slot.''
