Ducommun passed away on 12 June (15) in a hospice in Vancouver, Canada following serious complications related to diabetes, his wife Leslie tells The Hollywood Reporter.

He had a number of memorable roles on the big screen, playing Tom Hanks' prankster neighbour in 1989's The 'Burbs, a local bar regular in Bill Murray's Groundhog Day, and Anna Faris' dad in horror spoof Scary Movie.

Ducommun's other film credits include Die Hard, The Hunt for Red October, Spaceballs, Last Action Hero and Blank Check.

He also appeared in a number of popular TV shows, such as The Wayans Bros., Moonlighting, NYPD Blue and Murphy Brown, and fronted his own children's show, called Zig Zag, in the early 1980s.

He landed his big break thanks to fellow Canadian actor Alan Thicke, who recruited Ducommun to serve as an announcer and performer on his short-lived late-night talk show, Thicke of the Night, which ended after one season in 1984.
