'Hamilton' breaks records with no less than 16 nominations at this year's Tony Awards, being named for every available category sometimes more than once. Rival musicals are going to struggle to out-do Lin-Manuel Miranda's much loved American history rap montage at the 2016 awards show.

The Best Musical nominee sees seven actors up for awards for Leading and Featured Roles including creator Lin-Manuel Miranda himself, who is also named for Best Book Of A Musical and Best Original Score. 'Hamilton' is also on the list for all the backstage-type accolades - Scenic Design, Costume Design, Lighting Design, Choreography and Orchestrations - as well as Best Direction with Thomas Kail.

'Hamilton''s biggest Best Musical competition is 'Shuffle Along, Or The Making of the Musical Sensation of 1921 and All That Followed' with 10 nominations. This show is also looking at prizes in all backstage categories, with creator George C. Wolfe up for Best Book and Best Direction. Additionally, Brandon Victor Dixon and Adrienne Warren are among the Featured Role nominees.
Best Revival hopeful 'She Loves Me' has 8 nominations including two for Leading Roles and one for a Featured Role, Best Direction thanks to Scott Ellis. Meanwhile, 'Bright Star', 'School of Rock' and 'Waitress' are the others vying for Best Musical as well as Best Original Score; Andrew Lloyd Webber and Glenn Slater are responsible for 'School Of Rock''s fantastic soundtrack while Sara Bareilles worked on 'Waitress'.

Joining 'She Loves Me' among the Best Revivals are 'The Color Purple', 'Fiddler on the Roof' and 'Spring Awakening'. Plus, also hidden among the big nominees are 'American Psycho' and 'On Your Feet! The Story of Emilio & Gloria Estefan'.
Let's get to the plays; with seven nominations is Best Revival hopeful 'Long Day's Journey Into Night', with Michael Shannon up for an award for his Featured Role. More Play Revivals include 'Noises Off', 'Arthur Miller's A View from the Bridge' and 'Arthur Miller's The Crucible', and 'Blackbird' which stars Leading Role nominees Jeff Daniels and Michelle Williams.
Lupita Nyong'o is looking at Best Performance By An Actress In A Leading Role In A Play for the new production 'Eclipsed', and joining it in the Best Play category are 'The Humans', 'King Charles III' and 'The Father'.
The 2016 Tony Awards will take place on June 12th 2016.
