Manchester's indie rockers Pale Waves make a welcome return with - 'Lies', the band's first single in nearly ten months. 'Lies' is released as the band announce news that they will share a new album - 'Unwanted', on August 12th via Dirty Hit records, and embark on a headline tour later in the year.
Pale Waves previous album, 'Who Am I?', dropped in February 2021 and included the singles 'Change', 'She's My Religion', 'Easy', 'You Don't Own Me' and 'Fall To Pieces', the band's last unaccompanied release from last year.
Pale Waves lead singer Heather Baron-Gracie says that - "‘Lies is about someone who built up my trust and destroyed it like a wrecking ball...It caused some real trust issues, but fortunately for me that person is no longer in my life. Once you do me wrong you’re gone!" Baron-Gracie went on to say of the new album's title, 'Unwanted', - "It was really the only thing this album could be called. It’s bold and unapologetic, and that’s what the Pale Waves community is about. We don’t need to fit a perfect mould, we don’t need to apologise for being ourselves, and we won’t change for anyone. That acceptance is what connects us."
'Lies', crowned the 'Hottest Record In The World' by BBC Radio 1 when it was released, also comes with a video directed by Russian born film maker Vasilisa Forbes (Girli/The Bug/Dylan). Vasilisa explains that - "In LIES, a blue diamond shape is repeated through a performance cube where we mirror ceiling and floor, and a diamond studio formation ‘inversion’. Shadows and mysterious lighting-tonality speak to me of ‘LIES’ - covering up, hiding, sinister details...thoughts taking place in the shadows. Playfully the heart motif is presented and repeated through the use of blood-red tones, and heart cut-out lighting frames."
After playing festival dates that include Neighbourhood Weekender, Community Festival, Y-Not, Kendal Calling, Boardmasters and Reading & Leeds, Pale Waves will embark on their own headline tour starting in Manchester on November 25th and ending at Brixton Academy on November 30th.
