Lifetime need to recast their leading lady in the forthcoming Aaliyah biopic.

Disney star Zendaya was originally set to star in the flick but she has decided to walk away from the project.

This news comes only two weeks after it was confirmed thee 17 year-old will be playing the late R&B star in the made-for-TV movie, titled 'Aaliyah: Princess of R&B.'

Filming was scheduled to commence this summer and the television network wanted a premiere to occur this coming fall.

Lifetime took to Twitter to confirm the news on Sunday (June 29th), tweeting, "We are sad Zendaya will no longer portray Aaliyah. Production is currently on hold."

According to E!News, other production issues also arose as the project was closing in on getting made, noting that there have been issues in attempting to acquire the rights to Aaliyah's music.

"Aaliyah has always been a source of inspiration to Zendaya. She was honored to portray her and pay tribute to her," the teen star's Twitter read. "If she is going to do it, she wants to do it right."

Aaliyah, who made such hits as 'Try Again' and 'Are You That Somebody,' died at the age of 22 in 2001 after being involved in a plane crash.

The forthcoming biopic, 'Aaliyah: Princess of R&B,' will be based on the best-selling book 'Aaliyah: More Than A Woman', which depicts her debut on 'Star Search,' rise to fame, as well as her tragic death.

After being cast as the late star, Zendaya took to Twitter once again to explain her reasons for taking on the role.

"She's been an inspiration and influence in my whole career, her talent still shines brighter then ever, all I wanna do is honor her," she wrote on June 16th. "Show how much she accomplished in only 22 years....she's beautiful inside and there will never be another Aaliyah, I just hope to share her beautiful story, and make her proud up in heaven #babygirl #forever #OneInAMillion."
