The actor and former wrestler, real name Laurence Tureaud, has become known for his mohawk hairstyle and his penchant for wearing multiple 14-carat gold chains, earrings, bracelets and rings, which weighed a total of 40 pounds (18 kilograms), but Mr. T reveals he put away his pricey jewels 10 years ago after disaster struck New Orleans, Louisiana.

He tells U.S. news show Access Hollywood Live, "I stopped wearing my gold when Katrina hit. As a Christian, I felt it's considered to be a sin against law for me to wear my gold when people lost everything. I felt it would insensitive and disrespectful for me to wear all my gold and people died in the storm and stuff like that... This is stage stuff."
