The first trailer for Rob Epstein and Jeffrey's Friedman's biopic of 1970's adult movie star Linda Lovelace has rolled out online. Lovelace, stars Les Miserables actress Amanda Seyfried in the lead role, with the excellent Peter Sarsgaard playing her sleazy and abusive husband Chuck Traynor.

Though the movie is set in the nostalgic era of sideburns, flower dresses, flares and sexual exploration, 'Lovelace' is a grimy film about the 'Deep Throat' star who became a battered, broken woman at the hands of a monster of a man.

The film premiered at the Berlin Film Festival in February, with critics praising Seyfried's assured dramatic performance which many commentators somewhat cynically suggested was out of reach when the 21-year-old landed the role ahead of Olivia Wilde and Kate Hudson.

Elsewhere, producers landed a considerable coup when James Franco agreed to play the role of Hugh Hefner, while Robert Patrick, Hank Azaria, Chris Noth and Bobby Cannavale play Lovelace's father, Jerry Damiano, Anthony Romano and Butchie Peraino respectively. Adam Brody (remember him?) plays Harry Reems, while Chloe Sevigny plays a feminist journalist fighting to free Lovelace from her situation.

The up-and-coming actress and BAFTA winner Juno Temple plays Linda's best friend, while the considerable acting talents of Sharon Stone appear put to good use as Lovelace's mother.

Upon seeing the movie in Berlin, the Hollywood Reporter's Todd McCarthy called Lovelace a "smartly done account of the trials and tribulations" of the world's first adult movie star.
