A day after Ann Curry was ousted as co-host of NBC's Today show, the morning show's news reader, Savannah Guthrie quietly took her place. There was no special welcome for her and it wasn't until after the show had already aired that Today 's executive producer Jim Bell issued a statement saying that he was "thrilled to welcome Savannah as our newest co-anchor." Indeed, the NBC announcement said without explanation that it won't be until next Monday, July 9, that the new team officially debuts. Guthrie will be busy. According to the NBC press release she will remain the news reader on Today , will occasionally stand in for Brian Williams on Rock Center , and will remain NBC News's chief legal correspondent. Underlining the low-key nature of the announcement, Guthrie herself issued no statement of her own regarding her selection.
