Brian Eno Has An Innovative New Project Called 'Reflections'

Brian Eno

Brian Eno returns with a new album entitled 'Reflection', but this isn't just any regular album release. He's taken his ambient experimentation outside of the box by releasing it via an app that sees it as an ever-changing piece that is never the same on each listen.

The album will be as part of an Apple TV and iOS project which features a series of 'sonic materials' and various imagery to create a piece of 'endless' music that runs off a system of algorithms and constantly morphs depending on what time of day it is and other conditions.

Tributes and condolences have been pouring in from around the world following the death of David Bowie, which was announced early on Monday morning (January 11th).

The extent of Bowie’s illness was unknown to all but a select few, and the announcement of his passing at the age of 69 has come as a great shock to many, particularly as he had only released his 25th album Blackstar three days previously.

Surgeon Prescribes Brian Eno's Music To Hospital Patients

Brian Eno

Brian Eno is no stranger to writing music for specific locations or even environments - his work on 70’s albums Music For Airports pretty much created the ambient genre – so it should come as no surprise to discover that his music is being prescribed to patients by an orthopedic surgeon.

Robin Turner’s normally fidgety mother-in-law became calm when visiting an Eno audiovisual exhibition in Brighton, apparently, which gave the surgeon the idea of treating his patients with the sonic explorer’s music. He told The Guardian "she is normally very fidgety, you can't pin her down; the phrase we use is that she goes at a million miles an hour with her hair on fire. She went in and was there for two hours, which is unheard of. It was proof that this has a calming influence on people".

Eno has thus made music specifically designed for Turner’s patients "It seemed a natural step for me to take as I've been dealing with this idea of functional music for quite a few years” he said, adding "I've met many women who have had children listening to one of my records so I knew there was this dimension and here, in the last couple of days I've met patients and staff who have said, 'I really like that room, it makes a big difference." Played in a certain room, the music apparently helped a cancer patient, who told Eno – not recognising him – that he’d like a copy of the room to take home with him.

The British Guide To Showing Off Review

Excellent
This documentary about the extraordinary sculptor and performance artist Andrew Logan couldn't be more colourful if it tried. And like Logan's work, it's entertaining while also making an important point.

The film traces his life from childhood to becoming a fixture on the swinging London art scene in the late 1960s, with lively present-day interviews narrating a fabulous collection of photographs and old footage, some of which was shot by Derek Jarman, who won Logan's 1975 Alternative Miss World.

Meanwhile, Logan and his team are setting up the 2009 edition of his riotously lurid Alternative Miss World in North London.
