Welsh Pop Star Charlotte Church Is To Write A Letter Of Apology To Journalists Who Were Allegedly Spat On By Protesters At A March She Attended.
The singer-turned-activist was among the speakers at the demonstration in Manchester, England on Sunday (04Oct15).
During the rally, organised by the People's Assembly Against Austerity, a reporter covering the event for the Huffington Post was allegedly attacked.
Other journalists also claimed to have been spat on by protesters as the demonstration against government cuts turned ugly.
A young activist for the Conservatives was also pelted with eggs outside the party's conference in the city.
Church has now addressed the allegations and declared she intends to write a letter of apology.
"I would never have called anybody scum," she told reporters after the march. "I think that it is fundamentally unhelpful in the issues we're trying to talk about and name-calling is never a good thing.
"Whoever the person who got spat in the face, I'm sure it was a horrible experience, and I plan to write an open letter on behalf of the majority of people who were protesting that day just to say we are really sorry, this isn't what it's about, just to represent the rest of the people who were there who would never act like that."
Four arrests were made during the protest, which remained largely peaceful.
