Latin pop star Aveiro took to Twitter.com last week (11Aug15) and appealed to her followers to help her land a place in the annual singing competition.

She wrote, "Eurofans, I'd love for you to support me in representing Portugal in Eurovision, it would be a dream!"

Aveiro is hoping to break Portugal's bad luck streak in the competition - the country hasn't qualified for the contest for the past five years, and Portuguese acts have only reached the top 10 nine times since first entering the contest in 1964.

Portugal has participated in 48 Eurovision Song Contests and holds the record for the most appearances without a win.

The nation's best result came in 1996 when Lucia Moniz's O meu coracao nao tem cor finished sixth.

The Real Madrid star's sister has already recruited the help of superproducer RedOne, who has worked with the likes of Lady Gaga, Jennifer Lopez, Mariah Carey, and Pitbull, among others, to craft the perfect track.

The 2016 Eurovision Song Contest will be held at the Ericsson Globe in Stockholm, Sweden in May (16).
