The couple confirmed the engagement news by placing an announcement in British newspaper The Times on Thursday (01Oct15).

However, the nuptials will not take place until after diving star Tom has competed at the games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

"I don't think they're planning anything until after Rio," Tom's mother Debbie tells Britain's Daily Mirror newspaper.

"Exactly when we don't know. I'm not sad because I'm losing Tom. I'm gaining another (son), it makes everything all good."

Tom previously won a bronze medal for Great Britain at the 2012 Summer Olympic Games in London.

The Oscar-winning Milk writer has been dating Tom since 2013.
