Pete Wentz Relaunches Decaydance As DCD2 Records: Why You Should Be Excited

Decaydance Records was once the home to some of the hottest up and coming bands in the game. Formed by Fall Out Boy’s Pete Wentz in 2005, the label became an imprint to Fueled By Ramen Records where it held a roster featuring the likes of Panic! At The Disco, Gym Class Heroes, and Cassadee Pope’s first band, Hey Monday. As the label signed others and let some go, it began to fade into irrelevance around the same time that Fall Out Boy announced their hiatus in 2010. However, with Fall Out Boy doing things better than ever, it’s only right that Wentz attempts to do his label better than ever, too: he’s going to be relaunching Decaydance Records under the new name DCD2 Records.

"I'm saying it's an 'expansion' of what Decaydance was," Wentz told Rolling Stone. “We've always tried to do what Jay Z did with Roc-A-Fella, so maybe this is our RocNation. It's going to be home to some of the past Decaydance artists who are still making music, plus a couple of new artists that represent the next logical step forward." Those past Decaydance artists include Panic! at the Disco, Cobra Starship, and Gym Class Heroes, as well as new comers Lolo and New Politics. Both can be found on Fall Out Boy’s upcoming tour with Paramore this summer.

"One of the things about this label is that the artists are friends; we tour together, work together, have fun together. It's always authentic," Wentz continued. Well, the rookies to DCD2 are about to tour together, and they’ve even worked together in the past, too: singer Lolo can be found as a guest vocalist on Panic! at the Disco’s single, 'Miss Jackson.' But can they all be successful together, and can DCD2 find that same success that Decaydance had not too long ago? Lolo’s certainly got what it takes to hold her own in the industry, and after a promising start to her career thus far, it’ll be interesting to see where a new album can take her. New Politics, on the other hand, are no amateurs to success. The Danish rockers’ single, ‘Harlem,’ reached number four on the alternative rock charts, while ‘Tonight You’re Perfect’ made it to number sixteen.

Travie McCoy should be releasing his new album by the end of the year

Meanwhile, Travie McCoy, the frontman of Gym Class Heroes, has been readying a follow-up to 2010’s Lazarus for a while now, and with tracks like ‘Rough Water’ and ‘Keep on Keepin’ On’ released so far, it’s shaping up to be full of hits. The last we heard from Cobra Starship was the mediocre Night Shades record in 2011, but the band is allegedly in the studio working on new material. Additionally, singer Gabe Saporta’s pop-punk band, Midtown, from the late 90’s recently reunited for a show at the festival Skate & Surf. Can we see them reunited completely and signed to DCD2? Doubtful, but we can dream. Overall, the future is DCD2 is bright, whether Midtown is there or not, and with Wentz in full control once again, the label’s spot back on the top should be imminent.
