Scottish comedian Frankie Boyle has completed a week-long hunger strike in protest against the detention of a British man in Guantanamo Bay.

The funnyman stopped eating last week (17Jul13) in a bid to highlight the case of Shaker Aamer, who is one of several inmates at the American military's controversial detention camp who have stopped eating to take a stand over their treatment.

Boyle took to his Twitter account in the early hours of Wednesday (24Jul13) to tell fans he had completed the challenge.

In a series of posts on his page, he writes, "Well you'll be pleased to hear that my hunger strike's over and I just broke my tooth on a chicken wing. Happy days. And f**k Guantanamo, an immoral and illegal torture camp, they should level it to the ground and give it back to Cuba. F**k it to hell."

After winning $75,000 (£50,000) in libel damages from a British newspaper last year (12), Boyle donated the amount to a U.K. charity which is helping Aamer sue Britain's Secret Intelligence Service.
