George Clooney and Sandra Bullock brought their star power to opening night at the 70th Venice Film Festival on Wednesday. The event launched with the world premiere of Alfonso Cuaron's Gravity, and the critical buzz has been big for the thriller about two astronauts stranded in space when their shuttle mission is hit by debris. The big movie in cinemas around the world this week is the documentary One Direction: This Is Us, which has taken a hammering from critics for being far too on-message. But it's likely to keep fans very happy, especially since it reveals things like the fact that Niall Horan strips down to his underpants when he records in the studio. A scene in the film shows him recording this summer's big hit Best Song Ever in his boxers. Find out why Niall says "I sing better naked" here.
Made in 2006 and briefly released in the UK and US in the winter and spring of 2008, All the Boys Love Mandy Lane is being re-released in America this autumn due to fan demand. A newly assembled trailer promises a proper horror freak-out, with a strong cast including Amber Heard and Anson Mount. Director Jonathan Levine went on to make The Wackness, 50/50 and Warm Bodies after this one. Click Here for the All the Boys Love Mandy Lane trailer.
The hotly anticipated CBGB released a series of stills and a new trailer this week, finally giving us a glimpse of this drama about the legendary New York underground nightclub. Alan Rickman stars as the club's founder Hilly Kristal, alongside Rupert Grint, Malin Akerman, Ashley Greene and Mickey Sumner. The film premieres in October, and the trailer makes it look funny, scrappy and packed with the terrific music of Talking Heads, Blondie, The Police, Iggy Pop and more. Watch the first trailer for CBGB here.
We also had a new trailer for Powder Room, a Sex and the City-style British comedy starring Sheridan Smith and Jamie Winstone. The film hinges around the meetings women have in the toilets at various nightclubs, where they talk about their ambitions and love lives. Based on the stage play When Women Wee, the movie opens in November. Probably a good idea to change the title, watch the Powder Room trailer here.
Also opening in November, Parkland offers a new look at the assassination of John F Kennedy 50 years ago. Named for the hospital JFK was taken to after the shooting, the film has an all-star cast that includes Zac Efron, Billy Bob Thornton, Paul Giamatti, Marcia Gay Harden and Jacki Weaver. It looks like a lavishly produced film packed with intense emotions and awards-worthy performances. Some are already talking Oscars buzz for this film, watch the Parkland trailer here.
