It was a case of mistaken celebrity identity for Helen Hunt on Monday morning when she ordered a drink in Starbucks. Taking to twitter, the actress told her followers how a Starbucks barista had mistaken her for fellow Oscar winner Jodie Foster, someone who Hunt is well used to being confused with.

"Ordered my drink @Starbucks Asked the barista if she wanted my name. She winked and said. 'We gotcha' #JodieFoster," Hunt wrote on twitter alongside a photo of her cup that read ‘Jody’, meaning the barista had not only confused her with Jodie Foster, they’d also misspelled her doppelganger's name.

But it’s not the first time Hunt has been mistaken for Foster. During a 1994 appearance on the ‘Late Show with David Letterman’, Hunt said she’d been mistaken for Foster many times in the early days of her career. "My life has changed a little bit," Hunt told Letterman.

"I'm recognised now for being who I am, rather than: 'I went to college with you' or 'Did you used to date my cousin?' or 'Are you Jodie Foster?' – which I got for a long time."

One particular incident which stood out in Hunt’s mind was when she nearly got a free Thanksgiving turkey because the cashier thought she was Foster.

"The guy is checking me out, and says, 'You're Jodie Foster.' And I said, 'I'm actually not, thank you.' 'No you are, I know you're Jodie Foster.' 'I'm begging you, I'm not, I'm really not,'" she recalled.

Hunt eventually showed the cashier her driver’s licence, telling him she was in fact an actress, just not the one he thought. “After that there was no more free bird at all,” she added. “He wanted to give me a free turkey but then I’m not Jodie Foster so pay up.”
