Shane MacGowan was “so happy” to be visited by his pal Imelda May in hospital.
The ‘Fairytale of New York’ hitmaker - who has been hospitalised with an unknown health condition after suffering the rare brain condition encephalitis - was cheered up immensely by his ‘Made To Love’ singer friend popping in to see him and sit by his bedside, according to his wife Victoria Mary Clarke, 57.
She posted a photo of the musical pair on X, the site formerly known as Twitter, writing on Sunday (19.11.23): “Shane is so happy to see @ImeldaOfficial.”
Imelda, 49, shared the post from Victoria - who tied the knot with Shane back in 2018 - adding: “My darlin’ Shane @ShaneMacGowan. So good to see you today. Best kisser. [winking face emoji] (sic)"”
Many of the Pogues frontman’s famous friends have come to see him as he battles health issues, such as Bruce Springsteen, who is nicknamed The Boss.
When she shared a photo of the 74-year-old rocker and her husband, Victoria wrote on social media: “What an amazing honour and a beautiful experience to get a visit from ‘The Boss’ @ShaneMacGowan Such a truly wonderful man and a total genius. (sic)"
Shane broke the news of his health woes back in January when he dropped a statement announcing he was “suffering from encephalitis” and that “the light is killing me.”
Victoria detailed how she “noticed” something was up with Shane and immediately sought medical attention.
She told The Sunday Independent newspaper: “I noticed it on his face. His eye was getting red and began to close over.
“I called the doctor and the doctor said it was very dangerous so we had to get him to the hospital straight away.”
Victoria teased some good news recently when their was effort to get him home in time for the holidays.
She wrote on X last week: “Shane is feeling much better today!
“I am so grateful to everyone who is willing him to get home for the Christmas.”
