Jamie Foxx has returned to the set of his new movie 'Back in Action' for the first time since his health scare last year.

The 56-year-old actor fell ill in Atlanta, Georgia last April while he was in town filming his new Netflix movie with Cameron Diaz and he was unable to continue work on the project as he was recovering in hospital - but Jamie has now returned to the set of the film for the first time since the crisis.

He has been pictured alongside his co-star Cameron, and a source told PEOPLE Jamie has been "very quiet" while shooting and is "just focused on working."

No further details have been given over what happened to Jamie, who spent weeks in hospital before continuing treatment at a physical rehabilitation facility in Chicago, Illinois.

At the time of the health scare, his daughter Corinne said in a statement: "We wanted to share that, my father, Jamie Foxx, experienced a medical complication yesterday.

“Luckily, due to quick action and great care, he is already on his way to recovery. We know how beloved he is and appreciate your prayers. The family asks for privacy during this time."

Jamie later opened up about his experience during his first public appearance since his hospitalisation when he walked the red carpet at the Critics Choice Association‘s Celebration of Cinema and Television in Los Angeles in December.

Jamie accepted the Vanguard Award at the event and he got emotional while speaking to the audience, he said: "You know, it’s crazy, I couldn’t do that [walk] six months ago - I couldn’t actually walk.

"I cherish every single minute now - it’s different. I wouldn’t wish what I went through on my worst enemy because it’s tough when it’s almost over ... when you see the tunnel. I saw the tunnel - I didn’t see the light."
