Jay Z, Beyonce, Prince, Usher And Nicki Minaj Are Set To Headline A Special One-off Charity Concert In New York City To Celebrate The One Millionth Subscriber To Music Streaming Service Tidal.
Rap mogul Jay Z, one of the superstar investors in the artist-owned app, announced plans to stage a major party in his native Brooklyn on Tuesday (29Sep15), and a day later (30Sep15), the details for the big bash have been unveiled.
The musicians will be joined by Lil Wayne, Nick Jonas, Fabolous, Damien Marley, T.I., Big Sean and country singer Thomas Rhett, among many others, while comedian Jimmy Kimmel is also slated to make an appearance.
The TIDAL X: 1020 show will take place at the Barclay's Center on 20 October (15) and will stream live online.
The gig is aimed at "raising awareness, funds, conscious engagement & dynamic action for transformative & positive social impact", according to a post on the streaming site's official Twitter page. It will also serve as the "first in a series of philanthropic music events curated by Tidal".
Jay Z launched the streaming service in March (15) with co-owners including Beyonce, Usher, Nicki Minaj, Rihanna, Madonna, Kanye West and Daft Punk, but the stars faced a backlash from critics over the company's subscription fees, amid concerns the lack of a free service, which is provided by rival Spotify, could drive music-lovers back to illegal downloads.
