Katy Perry and John Mayer are no longer a couple!

The pair, who have been in an on-off relationship since August 2012, have split up in the "last few days".

E!News reported, a source close to each of the singers revealed the news, and said that Perry's hectic schedule played a crucial part in the break-up.

The insider told the gossip site, Perry is choosing to put her work before their relationship, especially with the 29 year-old preparing for her 'Prism' wold tour.

However, the source does admit that it isn't clear if the tour was the deciding factor.

Us Weekly also quoted a source saying, "Not sure how long it will last this time but yes, it is off for now," which further confirms the split.

"She's stressed about the tour, they've been fighting," a second source tells Us. "It is probably for the best, because she is going to be on tour for forever. Of course this happens all the time, I can't keep track anymore. But for now they are done."

Their separation comes as a surprise to many due to Katy gushing about her partner as recent as this past December (2013).

In an interview with 'Marie Claire' magazine, the 'Dark Horse' singer said, "He's just a fantastic partner, I've been a fan of his for such a long time. He's got a brilliant, brilliant mind."

In the same month, Mayer and Perry also gave a joint interview to promote their first duet 'Who You Love', and when explaining the meaning of the track, the musical partners seemed to be totally in sync.

Mayer said, "For me it always had to be about the song. It's a pretty big moving target to be a couple and have a song but I think there's an authenticity to it when you hear it."

Katy added, "It transcends us, it's more about the message of the song."

Only time will tell if the ex-couple decide to reconcile for a second time.
