Katy Perry has got a new tattoo to celebrate her Super Bowl performance.

The 'Dark Horse' hitmaker provided the half-time entertainment at the 49th annual Super Bowl, which saw the New England Patriots triumph over the Seattle Sea Hawks last night and felt that the tattoo was an ''appropriate'' addition to her collection.

Posting a picture of herself at the tattooist's, she wrote on Instagram: ''I thought it would be appropriate to draw blood tonight... XLIX (sic)''

She then added another photo of a close-up shot of her finger showing the inking 'XLIX', the roman numerals for 49.

Earlier, the 30-year-old singer rode a a giant puppet tiger into the arena, before performing 'Roar', 'California Gurls' and 'Teenage Dream'.

She was then joined on stage by Lenny Kravitz to sing 'I Kissed A Girl'.

The brunette beauty's dancers were dressed as sharks and palm trees and danced around the stage before Missy Elliott came on to perform three of her own hits, 'Get Ur Freak on', 'Work it' and 'Lose Control' .

The finale saw Katy don a sparkly silver outfit - her fourth costume change of the night - and fly around the stadium on a giant shooting star to end with 'Firework'.
