A year after the entire House of Cards season one appeared on Netflix we're getting set to devour season two with the kind of ruthless appetite for more that Frank Underwood would be proud of. The brilliant 13-part first season set the scene for house majority whip Frank Underwood's game-playing ascension to the Vice Presidency just as some of Washington's darkest secrets were beginning to be unearthed by Zoe Barnes and her team.

Robin Wright & Kevin Spacey Will Reunite As D.C. Power Couple In 'House Of Cards' Season 2.

A veritable slow-burner of a drama, the compelling and addictive House of Cards features the well-placed Kevin Spacey as the relentlessly ambitious Democrat Frank Underwood alongside his icy, scheming wife Claire, played by the terrifyingly talented Robin Wright, who manages a non-profit organisation whilst setting her sights on undoing those who have wronged her or her powerful and manipulative husband.

The newly released season two trailer opens on Frank being sworn into his Vice Presidency with one of his classic fourth wall-breaking asides where he says "One heartbeat away from the presidency and not a single vote cast in my name. Democracy is so overrated" in his characteristic southern drawl. We see Zoe's team close in on the truth with a confrontation between the investigative journalist and Frank as well as Claire wishing suffering upon someone unknown. "I don't know whether to be proud or terrified," says Frank.

The trailer shows the inimitable Kate Mara in her role as the determined journalist seeking to both further her career and expose D.C.'s corrupt underbelly with the help of Janine (Constance Zimmer) and Lucas (Sebastian Arcelus) who we saw at the end of season one moving closer to finding out how entrenched former prostitute Rachel Posner (Rachel Brosnahan) is in the government scheming and discovering that Congressman Peter Russo's death wasn't really a suicide.

House Of Cards Cast
David Fincher, Beau Willimon, Robin Wright, Kate Mara & Kevin Spacey.

David Fincher's dark and cynical drama looks set to win big at the 2013 Primetime Emmy Awards after garnering a raft of top nominations. Going head to head with last year's heavyweight winners, Homeland and Breaking Bad, House of Cards has earned a nod in the Outstanding Drama Series category and has also picked up dramatic acting nominations for its leads, Spacey and Wright.

Are we excited? Well that's a great question but we couldn't possibly comment on that... House of Cards season two will debut via Netflix on the 14th February.
