The fashion designed and former model's body was discovered in her luxury New York City apartment on Monday (17th March). Evidence discovered at the scene suggested the 49-year-old had committed suicide and this was confirmed on Wednesday (19th March) by a New York City official. The New York City Chief Medical Examiner stated Scott's death had been caused by suicide by hanging.
Media coverage of Scott's tragic death has been widespread owing to her relationship with Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger. The couple had been together for 13 years, having met in 2001, and Jagger has expressed his grief through social media. He posted a statement on Tuesday (18th March) on his Facebook page which reads: I am still struggling to understand how my lover and best friend could end her life in this tragic way. We spent many wonderful years together and had made a great life for ourselves. She had great presence and her talent was much admired, not least by me. I have been touched by the tributes that people have paid to her, and also the personal messages of support that I have received. I will never forget her, Mick".

At the time of Scott's death, Jagger was about to commence on a Rolling Stones tour of Australia. However, tour dates have been postponed as a result of their bereavement. Jagger has flown to Los Angeles in order to deal with arrangements for the funeral which will presumably involve transporting the body from the East Coast. Jagger's representative confirmed to E! News on Saturday (22nd March) that Scott's funeral would indeed be held in Los Angeles.
Jagger's family have flown out to join him in addition to his daughter Karis who lives in Los Angeles. Elizabeth, Georgia May, James and Jade Jagger have all flown in to be with their father according to the spokesperson. No date for a funeral has been set.
