Louis XIV are set to release a new double A-side single, 'Pledge Of Allegiance'/'The Hunt', as a limited edition 7" picture disc on January 2 through Pineapple Recording Group/Atlantic Records. 'Pledge Of Allegiance' is taken from the band's major label debut album The Best Little Secrets Are Kept which was released to widespread critical acclaim in October and has already spawned the hit single 'Finding Out True Love Is Blind', as seen performed on Friday Night With Jonathan Ross. Live favourite 'The Hunt', a rocking bluegrass ho-down, has been freshly re-recorded for this forthcoming release, with front man Jason Hill once again on production, engineering and mixing duties.
An electrifying live outfit, Louis XIV have seen their fan base in the US and UK grow by leaps and bounds with constant gigging over the last two years, selling out their own headline tours and also supporting such like-minded artists as the Killers and Hot Hot Heat in the States. The UK story really began to gather pace in summer 2005 when the band visited these shores for a triumphant headline tour, a trip that also saw the band pull off a rip-roaring performance at T In The Park, which earned them the 'Best band of the festival' accolade from the listeners of Scottish radio station Beat 106, and also playing two sold-out London Barfly shows. In September Louis XIV returned to the UK to appear as special guests of The Rakes on the NME Freshers Tour, and before returning to the States in mid-October the band played to full houses at two electric UK headline shows, at Sheffield's Leadmill and London's Garage.
Comprised of Jason Hill (vocalist/guitarist/bassist/pianist/producer), Brian Karscig (guitarist/vocalist/bassist/pianist), Mark Maigaard (drummer) and Jimmy Armbrust (bassist), Louis XIV first began operations as a three-piece (Jason/Brian/Mark) in April 2003. The band initially headed to Paris to record their self-released debut album, Louis XIV, where the sessions were loose and spontaneous, with the band nailing their target sonic goal – a lo-fi, high-energy maximum R&B inspired by such heroes as the Stooges and the Rolling Stones. Louis XIV, released on their own homegrown Pineapple Recording Group label, earned them critical praise and widespread radio airplay, from their native San Diego to the UK.
Louis XIV signed to Atlantic Records in August 2004, and the band's major label debut, The Best Little Secrets Are Kept was subsequently produced, engineered and mixed by frontman Jason Hill. The album brings together songs from their self-released album and EPs along with new material, all recorded in November and December 2004 at the band's own San Diego studio, built specifically for the recordings in a refurbished urban church.
